The Immigration Service has revealed that about 30 unaccompanied underage asylum seekers have gone missing in Finland over the past few years.

Some of them have been found in other EU countries, when they applied again for asylum, while one of them has returned to Finland.

Those who have gone missing are aged 14 to 17, and all of them are boys.

According to the Immigration Service, it appears that most of the youths decided for themselves to leave Finland, with reasons ranging from fear of asylum application being rejected, dissatisfaction with the life in Finland or the desire to be with friends or family living in other EU countries.

There are fears, however, that the disappearances are related to crimes or even human trafficking. The Finnish Immigration Service will investigate the criminal cases in collaboration with other authorities.
