Brigadier General Mauri Koskela of Finland has been chosen the deputy commander for the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) mission by the United Nations, said the Ministry of Defence.
 
UNDOF is the UN mission that oversees the ceasefire implementation between Syrian and Israeli forces in the Golan Heights.
 
The year-long stint for Koskela is scheduled to start in June. Koskela has previously worked in several international positions.
 
He was chief of staff of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) in Liberia as well as head of the Finnish forces in Afghanistan.
