The main opposition Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP) remained top in the popularity list among the political parties of the country, according to a survey report.

SDP continues as the largest political party and has increased its lead over the ruling Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party), second party in the list, said the survey conducted by a Finnish language daily Helsingin Sanomat.

The survey revealed that SDP support is at 22%, while Keskusta is 20.7. Last month, SDP gained 0.3 percentage points, and Keskusta only 0.1 percentage points.

The Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party), a component of the three-party alliance government rose from low figures in April by 0.6 percentage points to 17.7%.

The popularity of the opposition Vihreät (Green Party), however, fell by 0.3 percentage points to 11.4 percent.

The support for another component of the alliance government  Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party)  continues to decline.

From April, support for the party fell by 0.4 percentage points to 9.3%.

Among the respondents who voted for Perussuomalaiset in last year's election, only a third would vote for the party now.

The popularity of the smaller parties remained almost unchanged, said the survey of TNS Gallup, which interviewed more than 2400 people in mid-May.
