Prime Minister Juha Sipilä on Thursday spoke in parliament on threats received by his family.

According to the Finnish language newspaper Ilta-Sanomat, Sipilä said both he and his family had received, for example, death threats.

“It’s true that my family has been threatened, as have I, but that is probably nothing new to anyone,” Sipilä said.

The Southwest Finland District Court on the same day handled a case in which a man was charged with issuing death threats to Sipilä’s wife and children.

According to the prosecution, the Finnish man called the PM’s wife Minna-Maaria Sipilä in the late evening in the early February from an unknown number. The man threatened the lady and her children with rape and murder. The man also railed against Sipilä’s immigration policy and said the PM should be killed.

According to the prosecution, the man referred to Sipilä’s deceased son, saying he too would follow.

The same man is also accused of threatening Vihreä liito (Green League) MPs Emma Kari and Ozan Yanar.

The prosecutor said the man tried several times to call Emma Kari from the same number used to threaten Sipilä. He left a message for Kari threatening to rape her.
