Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta on Friday considered that the economic growth achieved in the first half of this year isn't bad, as it places the country on the second position in the European Union (EU).

"3.7 percent economic growth in the first semester of 2015 (the second place after the Czech Republic and slightly ahead of Poland) I say isn't bad!" Ponta wrote on Facebook, referring to the latest official statistics.

Romania's gross domestic product went up in the first half of 2015 from the same period of 2014 by 3.7 percent in unadjusted terms and by 3.8 percent in seasonally adjusted terms, according to the National Institute of Statistics.

Eurostat, the EU statistical office announced on the same day that the Czech Republic, Romania and Poland have recorded the biggest economic growths among the EU countries in the second quarter of 2015, as compared to the same period of 2014.

In the first quarter, Romania also registered one of the highest economic growths in the EU, with a year-on-year rise of 3.8 percent.

It is worth noting yet that on a Q1 basis, Romania's Q2 growth was only 0.1 percent, when the EU average was 0.4 percent.
