Retail trade sales went down by 1.1 per cent in July from July 2015, according to Statistics Finland.

Sales of daily consumer goods contracted by 0.8 per cent, whereas sales in department store trade went up by 3.0 per cent. 

Among the main sectors of trade, sales contracted most in wholesale trade, in total by 8.6 per cent from one year ago. In turn, motor vehicle sales grew by 1.7 per cent. Sales decreased in total trade by 4.7 per cent from July 2015, the data show.

In July, the sales volume of retail trade was 0.2 per cent lower than in July 2015. In wholesale trade, the sales volume went down by 6.9 per cent. 

By contrast, the sales volume in motor vehicle trade increased by 1.4 per cent from one year ago. Thus, the sales volume in total trade declined by 3.5 per cent in July.

Sales in total trade decreased by 0.1 per cent in January to July from January to July 2015. Sales in wholesale trade fell by 2.4 per cent over the same period. By contrast, sales in motor vehicle trade grew by 9.2 per cent and in retail trade by 0.3 per cent from one year back.
