Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is recalling nearly two million cars worldwide due to faulty airbags and seatbelts.

The Detroit News quoted the automaker as saying Thursday that the vehicles being called back are equipped with a particular occupant restraint control module and a front impact sensor wiring. When cars collide under certain circumstances, the airbags might fail to deploy and the seatbelt might not sufficiently tighten to protect passengers.

There are already three deaths and five injuries reported.

Of the total cars to be called back, 1.4 million are located in the United States; another 142,959 are located in Canada; 81,901 are in Mexico; and 284,051 are outside of North America.

Models affected in the United States include the 2010 Chrysler Sebring; 2011-2014 Chrysler 200; 2010-2012 Dodge Caliber; 2010-2014 Dodge Avenger and 2010-2014 Jeep Patriot and Compass SUVs.

The automaker said it "no longer uses the occupant restraint controllers or wire routing design found in the affected vehicles."
