The country's first full-fledged underground railway station has been completed near the Helsinki-Vantaa airport, according to the Finnish Transport Agency.

The station is part of the Ring Rail Line and will be opened for traffic in July next year.

The construction of the Aviapolis station which has a depth of 40 metres started in 2009.

The Aviapolis station, expected to hold up to 2,000 passengers, will become the first of the two tunnel stations at the Rail Ring Line.

It takes just a few minutes from the station to the airport and half an hour to the city centre.

The Ring Rail Line is 18 kilometres long and connects Vantaankoski line to the main line in Vantaa via the airport.

In the initial stage there will be five stations --- the Airport station, Aviapolis tunnel stations, Leinelä station, Vehkala station and Kivistö station.
