The centre is geared towards improvement of police capacity to prevent serious crimes and investigate. The centre is to begin operations on April 1. In addition to prevention of cyber crimes, the new centre will be involved in internet intelligence as well as conducting threat assessments.
The police special unit “Karhu-ryhmä” (Bear Group) is responsible for the nationwide rapid response operations. The parliament allocated the regional groups 2.7 million euros in appropriations. “Based on the European scale, the Finnish police operational activities and preparation are top level. The police have been using a number of technical and tactical applications which are just starting to be developed in other countries,” said Police Superintendent Jussi Huhtela in a statement.
