FTimes-STT Report, Mar 17

A football coach accused of molesting a child has been set free, reported the Finnish language daily Turun Sanomat.

The Court of Appeal said there is not sufficient evidence to suggest the coach was guilty.

The alleged incidents of abuse took place in 2005 or 2006. At that time, the child was 11 or 12 years old and was recovering from a sporting injury. The coach is reported to have massaged the child once. The child afterwards said the act felt as if it was sexual.

The coach denied having committed any crime or having any intention to get sexual satisfaction.

In 2013, the District Court of Southwest Finland sentenced the football coach to half a year’s conditional imprisonment. The court had also fined the accused 5,500 euros to be paid to the child as compensation for the suffering.

The Court of Appeal rescinded the fine decision. The court proceedings were held behind closed doors.
