The chair of Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party) and the vanguard leading the efforts to form the next government, Juha Sipilä on Thursday said the alliance partners are negotiating with the view to form a new government on May 29.

The ongoing negotiations to form a coalition government are scheduled to wrap up a couple of days earlier.

Sipilä also commented on the progress of the talks and said the negotiations within the working groups had been going well.

According to Sipilä, the working group deliberating the economic policy has made headway and is mapping alternatives.

The timeframe within which the 6 billion euro adjustments should be implemented has not yet been decided, said Sipilä.

“Is it, for instance, six years, is still open,” Sipilä said.

The total adjustments to ensure fiscal sustainability are estimated at 10 billion euros.

According to Sipilä, the remaining four billion euros is in any case a long-term work.

Sipilä also confirmed that the so-called social contract has also not been completely abandoned.

He, however, said currently there are no negotiations going on with the labour market organisations. Furthermore, further negotiations with the labour market organisations have not yet been planned.
