President Sauli Niinistö on Thursday met his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko in Aachen, Germany and the two discussed the situation in eastern Ukraine, the EU sanctions on Russia and the reform in Ukraine, said the President’s Office.
 
The president also held bilateral talks with King Abdullah II of Jordan. Their discussion focussed, among other things, on the situation in Syria and Iraq as well as terrorism and the fight against the extremist organisation ISIS.
 
President Niinistö was in Germany to attend the handing of the International Charlemagne Prize.
 
The prize which is conferred for promotion of European integration was received by the President of the European Parliament Martin Schultz.
