The Vanajavesi Social Democratic Association leased meeting space in early September to the motorcycle club Cannonball, reported the Finnish language tabloid Iltalehti.

Hämeenlinna Social Democrats Executive Director Mikko Suomalainen confirmed to the newspaper that the lease was signed.

According to him, the meeting space and the attached apartment have been rented out until further notice under the signed agreement.

“We only heard about this last week. When I first heard this, I was shocked. This is definitely not in accordance with our policies. If I had been in charge, I would not have allowed this to happen,” Suomalainen told the Iltalehti.

However, he also emphasised that the associations are independent and free to make their own decisions.

According to Iltalehti, Vanajavesi Social Democratic Association Chairman Jorma Hassinen rented the space to the motorcycle club. Hassinen worked as a manager for the Hämeenlinna sports hall, but has lost his job.

The chairman of the Hämeenlinna sports hall, Timo Saviemi told the Iltalehti that the reason for Hassinen’s termination was a loss of confidence in his abilities by the board. He denied that Hassinen’s termination was related to the lease agreement with Cannonball.
