Due to the growing number of new arrivals, it is no longer possible to keep up the services up to the current level.
The number of asylum seekers has once again begun to rise following the temporary drop last month.
“Even though new reception centres will be opened, the reception capacity is not enough to accommodate all the arrivals. There is also shortage of skilled administrators to run the reception centres,” said the ministry in a release.
According to last week’s statistics, Afghans overtook Iraqis as the largest group applying for asylum.
A total of 7,058 persons applied for asylum in October.
According to the interior ministry, based on population, Finland currently has the fourth highest number of asylum seekers’ arrivals in Europe with no sight of decrease in the near future.
