A foreign man was found dead in front of a nightclub in Pargas in Southwest Finland late Saturday night.
The police said there were an argument and a fight between Finnish nationals and foreigners.
“The fight started in front of a restaurant and at some point a man was found dead in the street,” said Chief Inspector Matti Ala-Haavisto.
The investigation into the death is still in its infancy, and the police cannot yet accurately explain the course of events. According to Ala-Haavisto, it is not certain how the man died.
“There were a number of individuals involved in the fighting, both Finnish and foreigners. At this point, it is still unclear how many people partook in the brawl,” Ala-Haavisto said.
It has not yet been clarified where the foreign man was from. However, according to Ala-Haavisto, this case does not involve refugees.
“There is no evidence that there were refugees involved in this. Pargas has no reception centre for asylum seekers. But Southwest Finland has a lot of foreign workers,” said Ala-Haavisto.
The police have questioned a number of people. Though, according to Ala-Haavisto, it is likely that all those involved have not yet been identified and questioned.
