The international motorcycle gang Satudarah MC is recruiting new members in Finland, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) told the news agency STT.

According to the NBI, Satudarah MC’s operating model is to recruit members from foreign populations. The gang was founded in 1990 in the Netherlands.

According to the Swedish tabloid Expressen, several gang members were sentenced to long prison terms in Sweden in 2014 for smuggling in the largest amount of cocaine in the country’s history.

The gang has expanded in recent years into the Nordic countries and, according to the Danish press, clashed violently in 2014 with the Hell’s Angels motorcycle gang in Denmark.

According to NBI Detective Chief Superintendent Rabbe von Hertzen, Satudarah MC considers the Bandidos motorcycle gang allies and the Hell’s Angels enemies.

In von Hertzen’s view, the entry of motorcycle gangs into Finland should always be considered a threat.

“They should not be able to come here without any sort of approval. Otherwise, the gangs will clash and fight for survival. Those clashes could become violent or turn into a turf war. However, something like the Nordic biker war of the 1990s is unlikely,” said Von Hertzen.

Von Hertzen believes that Satudarah’s international background has given it a better chance of setting its feet in Finland.

Also, the refugee crisis is a potential opportunity for recruitment, especially if integration efforts fail.
