Interior Minister and leader of the Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party) Petteri Orpo on Friday said that he is seriously considering to contest for the post of party Chairman.

He also said that he would make an announcement in this regard soon.

Orpo told reporters in Parliament that he is seriously considering the process, and that he wants to go through over the matter with different people.

“Finally I will make the decision by myself, on my own terms,” said Orpo.

The race for Kokoomus chairman began at the beginning of April when lawmaker Elina Lepomäki announced her candidacy.

Kokoomus Vice-Chair Paula Risikko and deputy director of the European Investment Bank Jan Vapaavuori have also received many inquiries about running for the top post of the party.
