A citizen initiative seeking for a referendum on Finland's membership in the European Union has received 12,000 signatures.

The initiative was launched by Sebastian Tynkkynen, the chair of Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) youth wing.

Tynkkynen believes the EU majority ruling undermines Finland’s sovereignty.

The initiative must receive 50,000 signatures to be eligible for submission to parliament. It needs to collect the stipulated number by the next six months to reach to parliament.
