Building permits were granted for a total of 8.3 million cubic metres in the third quarter of 2015, which is 30.3 per cent more than one year ago, according to Statistics Finland.
 
The growth in the total cubic volume was mainly generated from building permits granted for other than residential buildings.
 
New building now focuses heavily on Greater Helsinki, especially residential building construction is lively there.
 
In July to September 2015, the cubic volume of building permits granted for residential buildings grew by 5.6 per cent from one year ago.

The cubic volume covered by permits for residential buildings amounted to 2.5 million, of which the share of Greater Helsinki was 1.1 million cubic metres.
 
In the entire country, building permits were granted for a total of 7,500 dwellings, which is ten per cent more than one year earlier. Nearly one-half of building permits for residential buildings were granted for Greater Helsinki, the data show.
 
Building permits granted for detached houses were at a clearly lower level in January to September 2015 than in previous years. Several blocks of flats projects granted in Greater Helsinki, however, kept growing the number of building permits granted for residential buildings.
 
The cubic volume of building permits granted for other than residential buildings grew by 44.7 per cent in the third quarter.

Caused by a few large building projects in Greater Helsinki, the growth was biggest in building permits granted for public service buildings.  
 
The constant-price value or the volume of ongoing building production decreased by 6.5 per cent year-on-year in the third quarter.
 
The volume of residential building construction decreased by 6.4 per cent, while the cubic volume of residential buildings started grew by 7.9 per cent.
 
The volume of other than residential building construction decreased by 6.5 per cent.
