The September harvests are well underway due to the dry weather, according to the agricultural expert services ProAgria.

For some crops, the dry weather came too late, and the quality of the crops deteriorated. However, much the country’s harvest is satisfactory in quantity and quality.

During the growing season, the clear winners were oats, spring wheat and grasses. Barley suffered the worst from the early summer drought and late summer rains.

Field harvests are nearing completion. About 5 to 15 per cent of cereals and 20-50 per cent of rapeseed are still not harvested, though.

According to ProAgria, the seed potato harvest is normal in both quantity and quality. In South Ostrobothnia, the seed potatoes have been harvested. In other areas, the work is still in progress. Storage potato harvests have progressed in more than half the country.

Harvesters in Åland are picking autumn varieties of apples that will be in store in mid-October.
