New car dealership Bilmax was opened in Rovaniemi on September 15 aiming to be the “Ikea of car dealerships” with low prices and customer self-service.

Concentrating solely on used cars, Bilmax opened the business as the Car Centre goes through renewals.

Cars are held outdoors for 14 hours beginning 7:00am for customers to inspect and sales are open from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

While visited the Bilmax Car centre, set up next to Prisma of south central, Finland Times correspondent found number of used cars of different brands there.

“We have sold 15 cars on the opening day of the Centre,” one of the employees told Finland Times on the following day of the inauguration of the Centre.

“The customer won’t need to pay for fancy heated facilities,” the entrepreneur Antti Herajärvi said, adding, “This is a way to maintain a low-price point by eliminating extra expenses.”

Bilmax will also introduce new forms of car dealership. Some cars will be auctioned off at huutokaupat.com website; some budget cars will be sold without warranty to be fixed by DIY enthusiasts.

Customers may also leave their own cars to be sold by Bilmax on sales account.

“The dealership will have, for instance, a digital screen for auctioning some of the cars,” Herajärvi said.

“Bilmax is our original concept.” There is a small dealership in Norway under the name Bilmax, but the Bilmax run by Herajärvi has nothing to do with the Norwegian one.

“We have trademark-protected the Bilmax name in all of Europe,” said Herajärvi, adding, “the goal is that Bilmax won’t stay only in Rovaniemi.”

“Here we shall open the pilot, but the goal is to take the business to Southern Finland.

Sweden is also in consideration. We are yet to decide whether to open our own shops or go by franchising,” Herajärvi said.
