A total of 61 million tonnes of goods were transported by lorries in the second quarter of 2016, which was three per cent lower than in the corresponding quarter in 2015, according to Statistics Finland’s data.
 
The volume of transported soil materials decreased by 19 per cent and the volume of transport for other goods increased by seven per cent compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
 
The total transport volume of lorries amounted to 5.7 billion tonne-kilometres in the second quarter of 2016, which was 21 per cent more than in the corresponding quarter of one year before, the data show.  
 
Ninety-four per cent of the transport volume was transported in professional transport and six per cent in private transport.
 
The data for the statistics on goods transport by road are collected from lorry owners with a quarterly sample survey.
