Role of EIGE blamed
FTimes-STT Report, March 9

The International Women’s Day was observed in the country on Friday as elsewhere in the world with a call to end violence against women.

This year the United Nations had set the theme of the day -- ‘A promise is a promise: Time for action to end violence against women.’

Speaking on the occasion in Helsinki, the political leaders of the country criticized the role of  the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) for not taking proper measures to ensure rights of the women.

Social Democratic Party (SDP) lawmaker, Liisa Jaakonsaari blamed the EIGE  for not taking adequate measures for the development of women.

She also criticized the reluctance of the European Union for its failure to address the proper role of women as the member states of the EU are not accelerating the matter forward.

The SDP leader urged that the EIGE to perform proper role with having adequate information in this regard.

Liisa  said that  adequate information regarding the issues related to the women development was important but the fact was the EIGE failed to produce enough information which can facilitate the total outcome for women development.

Kokomus lawmaker, Sirpa pietikäinen admitted that the overall condition of the women had been improved  compared to the  suffragette of 20th century but it should be more overcoming some existing obstacle.
