Tue, 12 Mar, 2013 04:05:20 AM FTimes-STT Report, March 12 The Supreme administrative court on Monday void a decision of Saami parliament regarding inclusion of new names of the Saami people in the electoral poll.
The court made the order following an appeal of the aggrieved people as the Saami parliament earlier decided not to include four new names, who were dropped from the list of the electoral poll.
The aggrieved people challenged the decision of the parliament in the Supreme administrative court and eventually the Court dismissed the decision of the parliament.
The court ordered the authority to include the names of the Finland Saami people in the electoral list who have the right to cast vote in the district elections.
The Saami Parliament, expressing immediate reaction over the verdict said that the Supreme administrative court verdict came from the broader sense of giving approval to the right of the people as wider group of Saami community.
The Saami parliament was launched on march 2, 1996. It has currently 21 representatives, who are elected in every four years by direct votes from the municipal area of Saami domicile.
