The number of immigrants in Finland posted a significant rise last year, according to the data released by the Statistics Finland on Friday.
 
The data show a total of 31,280 people immigrated to Finland from different foreign countries in 2012, registering a rise of 1,800 from that in 2011.
 
The number of emigrated people from Finland also increased to 13,850 last year. Therefore, the net number of people immigrated to Finland in 2012 stood at 17,430.
 
Last year, 16,340 people immigrated to Finland from the EU countries while 8,710 people emigrated from Finland to different EU countries.
 
The number of inter-municipal migrations in 2012 was 275,970, down by 390 from that in 2011. 
 
In terms of internal migration, the region of Uusimaa had the largest and the region of Pirkanmaa the second largest migration gain in last year. The region which suffered the largest population loss in migration in 2012 is Lapland, where the migration loss was 830 people.
