The interior ministry is planning to draft a bill with the provision for entitling police access to the passenger name record (PNR).
According to the Interior Ministry, the police should access the data in order to prevent crimes as well as for investigation purposes.
The aim is to provide the police with the same right of access to information that the Customs and border protection authorities enjoy.
Passenger name data is of increasing importance in law enforcement according to the ministry.
The government is likely to table the draft legislation in parliament this spring.
