The Finnish intelligence service Supo has confirmed that it knows the identity of the Finnish-speaking man who appears in a YouTube propaganda video hosted by the radical Islamist organisation Isis.

Supo Communication Director Jyri Rantala said they already had information about the man and his inner circle.

“According to our knowledge, this person has been residing for over a year in the crisis region and his wife presumably is also living abroad,” said Rantala in an interview with the news agency STT.

Rantala, however, did not specify whether the man holds Finnish citizenship or in what part of Finland he had lived.

The man is seen in a video posted on YouTube inviting all his brothers to come to the Isis caliphate.

The subtitle in the video indicates that the man is from Finland. Other people also appear in the video which was posted on Saturday.

Rantala describes the video as a traditional propaganda video which has Islamic symbolism, particularly that associated with the end-of-Ramadan celebrations.

More than 40 people have left Finland for the conflict region of Syria but not all to take part in the fighting, according to Supo.

Isis, which has captured large areas in Syria and Iraq, declared in the end of June a restoration of the Islamic caliphate.
