The man arrested in Mäntsälä is suspected to have shot at police, said the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The man trailed and stopped by the police on the national road 4 on Monday is also suspected to be behind a shooting incident that took place near the Mäntsälä service station.

The Eastern Uusimaa police confirmed that he was also held in connection with shooting at police.

The road was closed that night during the police operation. It was opened before seven 7 o’clock in the morning.

The shooting incident that took place near the service station was first reported by the Finnish language daily Iltasanomat.

One eye witness told the newspaper that while driving on the national road 4, he had seen a number of police officers in bulletproof vests and an armoured vehicle.

The police confirmed to the news agency STT that the armoured vehicle sent to the scene was prepared for the situation.

Photographers of the photo agency Lehtikuva who arrived at the scene afterwards, however, did not see any large police operation. There was only one patrol car investigation the base of a ditch.
