Two people were burnt to death when a fire broke out at a residential building at Orimattila in Päijät-Häme early Saturday.

The fire took place at about 3am and gutted the 70 square-meter house before the Rescue Department rushed to the spot.

Interior of the building was completely destroyed due to the fire.

Police and Rescue Department are investigating the reason behind the fire.

The fire officers said that the fire might have originated from the hall where it had caused the most damage.

Meanwhile, recent country report said the casualty in fire increased significantly.

According to Finnish National Rescue Association (SPEK), 55 people were killed in fire in the country from January to August this year. The number is almost double compared to the number of last year.

For example, in Rauma, one person died in a building fire at the end of October and two died in Turku earlier this week.

One person was killed in fire at Orimattila in early November.
