FTimes - STT Report, Nov. 09

North Karelia environmental health officials warned the poultry farmers in the locality to be alert from possible virus attack as they found the disease following death of domestic pigeons in Joensuu.

A number of domestic pigeons were recently found dead on the east bank of Joensuu and Tikkamäki, which might be a reason of the virus attack, the officials said.

According to the studies of Evira, the death of the pigeons is caused by a paramyxo virus.

Paramyxo virus, however, is not dangerous for the human body.

It is important for the producers to take care of the disease and protect their poultry from getting infected.

Poultry producers, for example should wear appropriate protective gear when entering the production areas to prevent the spreading of the virus.

The officials drew special attention to footwear, which may spread the disease.
