FTimes – STT Report, Feb 20

Prime Minister Alexander Stubb on Thursday said that a solution regarding the social welfare and healthcare  reform proposal (Sote Reform) will still be sought during the present parliament's term following the recommendations of the parliamentary Constitutional Law Committee on Thursday to bring modifications into the bill.

According to Stubb, the Parliamentary Social Affairs and Health Committee will continue to look into the matter.

On Thursday, the leaders of the political parties sat in a meeting to address the Sote reform situation where the leaders unanimously agreed that the Sote reform should not be buried, said the Prime Minister.

According to Stubb, the social welfare and healthcare reform must be compatible with the constitution and the solution must correspond to the Parliamentary working group initial objectives.

The premier added that the solution must also bridge the sustainability gap and this will be attempted during this term.

"The Sote reform continues," Stubb assured the reporters after the meeting.

He said all the parties have shown a strong will that the reform will be moved forward.

"Will it succeed or not, this is difficult to say at this point, but it is in our efforts," said Stubb.

Stubb emphasised that the Sote reform is the biggest health and social service reform in decades.
