The District Court of Ostrobothnia on Friday sentenced a man to one-year imprisonment for collecting eggs of protected birds.
 
The convict born in 1984 in Närpiö was also ordered to pay the state 250,000 euros for the crimes committed between 2003 and 2011.
 
The man was charged with three nature conservation crimes as well as a firearm offence.
 
He was found guilty of possession of eggs, possession of other natural products and unauthorised exportation of eggs.
 
The firearm offence was related to improper storage of firearm.
 
A total of 28 counts were dismissed.
 
The customs about three years ago discovered over 8,000 bird eggs of which some were eggs from protected birds.
 
The seizure was one of the largest in the Nordic countries.
