The youth front of the opposition Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) protesting the moderate mentality of the party leaders toward European Union burnt the EU flag on Saturday.

Around 20 leaders and activists of the organisation gathered at the Mikkeli church Park as per their pre-schedule announcement at about 4:00pm and burnt the EU flag, which was earlier cut into pieces and put inside a container, to press home their demand of quitting from the European Union

The protest, however, took place in a more unadorned way than the people had expected. The police kept watch on the protest from distance.

The protestors urged the country leadership to take lessons from history, which has shown the centralization of power fail, and quit the European Union. As an example they cited Nazi of Germany and the Soviet Union regime.

The youth front leaders took harder position than the policy of their main organisation Perussuomalaiset as they believe that the Finnish people do not want to be driven by EU and do not want to be part of the EU.

Speaking on the occasion, the chairman of the youth front Sebastian Tynkkynen said that the interest of Finland could be fulfilled, if it is run upholding the interest of EU.

“The European Union leaders have no idea other than to concentrate power in the Union,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Perussuomalaiset Chair, Timo Soini said that he does not understand the desire of the youth organisation to intentionally provoke people’s ire, reported Yle.
Burning the EU flag in Finland is not a punishable offence.
