A total of 796 women applied to join the conscription service this year. The figure was shy of last year's record which saw 818 women willing to join the military service.
Only last year's figure supersedes the current number of applicants willing to join the voluntary military service.
The majority of the applicants will receive call-ups in April for next year's conscription.
Most of the women volunteers are from the Uusimaa region with a total of 200 applicants.
Women have had the chance to apply for volunteer military service since 1995. That time 793 women applied to join the military service.
The popularity of the voluntary service substantially declined in 2005 and 2006 during which approximately 430 women volunteered to join the military service.
