A 36-year-old man suspected of killing three people at a pizzeria in Laukaa is said to have been a workmate of the victims, said the Inner Finland police.

A 50-year-old man and his 42-year-old wife along with their 42-year-old female employee were slain inside Midia-pizzeria on mid Sunday.

The police confirmed that one of the victims was a national of both Turkey and Finland.

The rest were Turkish nationals and all of them had lived in the country for a long time.

According to Martti Lehti, a senior researcher at the National Research Institute of Legal Policy, incidents resulting to a person being killed at the workplace are very rare.

In the last two decades, 20 people have been killed during the course of their work, said Lehti.

Five of them were killed during Sello mall shooting in Espoo back in 2009. The majority of those who have been killed are shopkeepers and private entrepreneurs.

The recent killing in Laukaa brought memories of the Oulu axe killer, in which the perpetrator murdered a bar worker and a customer.

Lehti, however, does not consider restaurant profession to be particularly dangerous.

“Before the Oulu killing, only one restaurant worker had been killed in the 2000s,” said Lehti adding that licensed restaurants are neither dangerous for customers nor employees.
