Three people – a couple who owns a pizzeria and an employee of it ¬– were killed in the Laukantie area of Luakaa, a municipality in the central Finland region on Sunday.

Although the police did not disclose any detail of the incident and the victims, a Finnish language newspaper quoting two eyewitnesses said the victims were a couple who ran the pizzeria and an employee of it.

Regarding the mode of the killings, the police only said no firearm had been used in the restaurant during the incident.

The police, however, said all the victims are of foreign origins, but it could not be ascertained immediately whether they are Finnish citizens or not.

The police said one person was arrested in connection with the incident.

“All the victims and the suspect are of immigrant background who have been living in the country for a long time,” said the lead investigator, Detective Inspector Markku Latvala.

Despite one person being taken to custody, Latvala stressed that at this point he remains only a suspect.

For investigate reasons, the police had remained very silent as of Sunday evening.

Latvala also did not reveal the gender of the victims, since their identity had not yet been confirmed.

The Finnish language daily Helsigin Sanomat had interviewed two different people at the scene who said the victims were a couple who ran the restaurant along with their employee.

The police are continuing with the technical and tactical investigations and, according to Latvala, interrogation of the suspect starts on Monday.

The police were alerted to the pizzeria located at Laukantie 18 at around 1:20pm.

According to Latvala, the victims had already been dead on arrival of the police patrol.

The police said bystanders were not in danger and, most likely, there were no other people inside the pizzeria during the killings.

The police have appealed for witnesses who were at the scene between noon and two O'clock to come forward or call this number 050-456 0471.

The police will make a briefing on the developments in the case on Monday afternoon, said Latvala.
