A multi-unit rental property was destroyed in Suutarila, Northern Helsinki, and a large private house in nearby Pakkala in the neighboring city of Vantaa.
Black smoke could be seen from downtown Helsinki about 20 km away. No casualties were reported.
Fire units kept combating both fires on Sunday afternoon. Local media reported that 12 families had lost their dwellings in the fire in Suutarila.
The rescue services could not comment on the cause of the fires.
