Bank of Finland Governor Erkki Liikanen and Permanent Secretary to Defence Ministry Arto Räty think the possibility of cyber threats must be taken seriously.

The views of Liikanen and Räty came at the Päämaja summer symposium in Mikkeli.

Räty said the Finnish security environment has shifted radically, but still the country has the opportunity to respond to these threats.

“Finland has invested in cyber security. Hopefully, it will continue to do so in the future, even though the economic situation is tight,” Räty said.

According to Liikanen, cyber security has been made particularly difficult by the fact that digitalisation has to be improved as well.

Finland should also demonstrate beyond its borders that the country is prepared for the changing security demands.

The Päämaja summer symposium held annually in Mikkeli is open for all. The eighth edition of the symposium this year focused mainly on economy, security and labour market.
