FTimes – STT Report, Aug 14

The head of the security police-Supo, Antti Pelttari does not consider political extremism a threat to the country’s security.

The assessment will continue on a daily basis, Pelttari told the Keskisuomalainen, a regional Finnish language daily.

According to Pelttari, extremist ideology has worrying features such as subverting organisation of a democratic society or xenophobia.

There is, however, no indication of increase in the number of active members of the organisations.
Pelttari said the number of Finnish extremist organisations is small and has fewer active members compared to similar organisations in other Nordic countries.

“For example, the Finnish Resistance Movement has a dozen active members. In addition, there is a group of persons who sympathise with the movement’s ideology or are involved randomly in their activities,” Pelttari told the newspaper.
