FTimes – STT Report, Nov 12

Renowned lawyer Heikki Lampela was on Thursday charged with assault and intimidation at the District Court of Espoo.

The prosecutor, Tapio Mäkinen called for Lampela to be handed conditional imprisonment.

The charges relate to an incident between the lawyer and his girlfriend.

Lampela and his girlfriend arrived at the court hand in hand and were seemingly unwillingly to discuss the events leading to the case in the courtroom.

Lampela had in the past said he would not ever comment on the issue again. He, however, denies the allegations.

Since Lampela’s female friend remained silent in the court, the prosecutor had to rely on earlier reports, emergency call recording and radio interview, among other things.

Domestic violent cases are currently subject to public prosecution meaning that end of the case no longer depends on the will of the victim.

According to the document instituting the proceedings, the lawyer hit the woman, strangled her, tore her hair and spit on her face.

According to the prosecutor, Lampela also tried to prevent the woman from reporting the incident and speaking to the police.
