FTimes – STT Report, Nov 12

The police suspect Pekka Tiainen, a ministerial counsellor at the Ministry of Employment and the Economy, was involved in economic crimes, reported the Finnish commercial broadcaster MTV.

The Helsinki police confirmed to the news agency STT that they have received from a Helsinki debt-collection agency a request for investigation related to a property owned by Tiainen which was sold at a compulsory auction.

Lead investigator Harri Saaristola refused to divulge the specifics of the suspected crime or who is the suspect or suspects.

According to MTV, Tiainen is suspected of debt offence. The debt collection agency demands a payment of more than one million euros.

Tiainen told the news agency that there is no truth behind the allegation.

Tiainen was a Suomen Työväenpuolue (Workers Party of Finland) candidate in the previous election. He was also a candidate in the 1994 presidential elections.
