The Helsinki police are going to investigate into the anti-immigrant publication MV-lehti, reported the national broadcaster Yle.

The investigation request was made by political parties and youth and students’ organisations on charge of violating freedom of expression and Deputy Prosecutor General Jorma Kalske forwarded it to the Helsinki police for investigation.

The Office of the Prosecutor General said the police will launch a pre-trial investigation and afterwards it will be decided whether to refer the case for consideration of charges, said the Yle report.

The organisations have also accused the publication of permitting racist threats.

The petition against the MV-lehti was signed by Social Democrat students, Centre Party student union, National Coalition Party student union, Social Democrats youth wing, Green League youth and student organisations, Left Alliance youth wing, Left Alliance student union,  Swedish People’s Party of Finland youth wing, and Christian Democrats youth wing.

According to Yle, all the major political parties excepting the Finns Party have been represented in the petition.
