FTimes-Xinhua Report, May 5

The police announced Wednesday it had uncovered a major drug trafficking chain which had smuggled a large amount of Subutex tablets, hashish and other drugs into Finland.

The preliminary investigation showed that nearly 30,000 Subutex tablets, about 17 kg of hashish and other drugs had been smuggled from France and Spain to Finland.

The street value of the drugs was estimated at between one million and 1.6 million euros.

Nearly 50 suspects were involved in the case, most of whom were arrested or detained.

The drug trafficking chain was first uncovered in February this year when a police patrol discovered drug deals taking place at Pasila Railway Station in Helsinki. Police seized a small amount of marijuana and 12,500 euros in cash, reported a Finnish language daily Helsingin Sanomat.

The case was investigated by the police departments of Helsinki, Ostrobothnia, Central Finland and Oulu in cooperation with Finnish Customs.
