The attitude of Finnish people towards the refugees has become more negative over the recent period, reported the Finnish language evening tabloid daily Iltalehti quoting a survey report.

According to the survey conducted by the newspaper, about 56 per cent of the respondents are of the view that the country should take less asylum seekers.

The number of the respondents opposing accepting refugees is 22 per cent higher than those found in a similar survey conducted in March.

According to the survey, men are more critical than women on refugees and immigrants. On the contrary, Finns view work-related immigration in a more favourable light.

The survey was conducted by Taloustutkimus through interviewing more than 1,000 people online.

The margin of error was about 2.5 per cent in either direction.
