Finland will participate in training activities relating to the airspace surveillance of Iceland as part of a Norwegian deployment in 2014.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Foreign and Security Policy on Friday, said a government press release.

In accordance with a policy outline formulated by the president and the cabinet committee, the meeting discussed the issue threadbare.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will submit a report to the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee to facilitate a broad-based discussion on the issue in the parliament.
The final decision will be made by the defence minister based on the parliament’s position.

The meeting also discussed future developments in the EU’s common security and defence policy, the press release said.
