The Chief of Helsinki Police, Jukka Riikonen, has said the perceived dissonance between Helsinki police drug unit and National Bureau of Investigation was exaggerated.

In an exclusive interview with news agency STT, Riikonen said the difference was not that inflamed as the public has been made to understand.

Reflecting on the myth that there has been disharmony between the NBI and the unit for decades, Riikonen said nothing was to be noticed at work that there was a kind of a huge feud going on.

The police boss said it did not mean that people would be at loggerheads if they have different views on organised crime.

Riikonen claimed that isolated disputes involving only a small number of people has been exacerbated.

He said the situation was currently exceptional because NBI agents were investigating the operations of the drug unit.

Riikonen expressed hopes that the situation would go back to normal once the issue was over.

"A lot of work has to be done to bring the situation back to normal. I do not see it as an overwhelming issue," he said.
