At least 20 people were killed and 657 injured in as many as 536 road accidents in the country in September 2014, according to preliminary data of Statistics Finland.
Among those who died, 15 were men and five were women.

The number of persons killed was three higher and that of persons injured 13 lower than in September 2013, the data show.

Of the persons who were killed, nine travelled by passenger cars, one by van, one by lorry and two by motorcycle.

Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered four and cyclists two. In addition, one other road user was killed.

A total of 3,969 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to September period. In them, 165 persons were killed and 4,992 injured.

The number of persons killed was 29 lower and that of persons injured 86 higher than in the corresponding period of 2013, according to the statistics.
