Speaking during an event in Turku on the designated Ahtisaari Days, the former president said Finland should seriously ponder how the model could be offered elsewhere in the world.
“Our social model is fair and offers all healthcare and education. During my travels around the world, I have found that a better model does not exist elsewhere,” said Ahtisaari.
The former president also emphasised that the country must be able to maintain the welfare society.
“There are a number of examples in the world where the income gap has widened so extensively that it is impossible to maintain social harmony,” observed Ahtisaari.
The event also saw the president award student mediators. The award went to Sofia Mänty from Lauste school and Eino Korhonen from Raunistula school of Turku.
