Prime Minister Alexander Stubb has reiterated Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP) commitment to see through the proposed reforms in the country's social welfare and healthcare during the tenure of the present government.

Talking to Yle Radio in the Prime Minister's interview hour, Stubb said his party is strong willed towards finding a solution to the proposed reform plans.

In March this year, the government and the opposition agreed on the implementation of a comprehensive reform of social welfare and healthcare services, with the view to safeguard the provision of vital welfare services over the forthcoming decades.

According to the reform plan, all social welfare and healthcare services are to be delivered by five strong regional providers.

During the interview, Stubb denied claims expressed by other political parties that the ruling party would block the reform plans.

The Premier said it is typical due to tough negotiations to blame one party and unfortunately, at this moment there is an attempt to make Kokoomus a scapegoat.

Stubb said he believes a solution will be reached in the near future and be tabled before the parliament.

The Kokoomus is believed to support a stronger role for the private sector in the provision of social and health care services.

Juha Sipilä, the chair of opposition party Suomen Keskusta (Centre Part) during an interview with YLE TV1 programme Ykkösaamu on Saturday, claimed there is a commitment problem with regard to the reform plans on social welfare and health care services.

However, Sipilä did not specifically point out where the problem had originated from.
