Many of the young people in the country believe they face discrimination at some point in their lives.

According to the 2014 Youth Barometer, discrimination of the youth is so common to an extent that it is characterised in every day to day life of the young people.

The risk of discrimination increases especially when a young person also happens to be a member of a minority group.

Almost three out four young people who belong to sexual and gender minority groups are said to have at one point of time been discriminated.

Young immigrants have also experienced more discrimination compared to the native population especially in formal situations.

Almost half of all respondents reported to have faced discrimination in school, and about one in five said they had faced discrimination at the work place.

One in five of the respondents reported to have experienced discrimination because of their mode of dressing or because of their appearance.

The survey information was obtained through interviews over telephone in which 1,903 young people of the ages 15 to 29 took part.

The annual Youth Barometer has been conducted since 1994.
